The Creek

A little creek with a riffle,

melody the high banks noise filter.

Dragonflies hover mid-air meditation

reeds elongated pose elegance

graceful bullfrogs serenade.

On golden days of deep Summer

Cicadas echo antiphonal song.

Fall is coming soon; before too long

water more slack flow, pools all full

sandbar sprouts myriad wild blooms.

Rusty leaves frolic amid raindrops eddies

Weaver nesting birds migrate home south.

Crawdads scrape homely burrows

Kingfishers at home in bank-side digs:

all have a place at the creek save for me.
